Bhisham Sahni's famous novel 'Mayyadas Ki Mari' (Mayyadas's Castle) in Malayalam, translated by P Madhavan Pillai. One of his finest literary creations, 'Mayyadasinte Maalika' depicts the history of a town in Punjab which sees the change in fortunes and lives of the people as the old Khalsa Raj is defeated and the British rule is established. Spanning over a period of almost three hundred years is the Mansion that has stood the test of time, even if its masters have not. Subjects like education of the girl child, stories of valour and betrayal, sweeping changes brought about by the British Raj, traditions and customs of the bygone time are brought to light delicately but vividly so that you get a sense of living in that age.
