Written for children, Kannooru is quite different from usual children's literature. According to the author Dr. K. Sreekumar, "the book was born when I thought childrens' literature means not only stories of animals or kings or alphabet songs." The plot of the novel is in the political struggles which have orphaned many children. Kannooru won the author Bhima Award for children's literature. Illustrations by Devaprakash.
