One of the most noted works by Ullur S Parameswara Iyer. Umakeralam, a mahakavyam, is introduced (in English) by Kerala Varma Valiya Koli Thampuran. He writes: "Parameswara Iyer deals with the life and times of Umayamma Rani in a masterly manner, skilfully clothing the the dry bones of history with the flesh and blood of romance... There is hardly a dull or uncouth line in the whole poem. In the vividness of its imagery, in the grandeur of its conception, and in the exquuisiteness of its workmanship, this great poemof Parameswara Iyer, with its lengthy cantos, may not be inaptly compared to that admirable masterpiece in Sanskrit literature, the Naishadhiyacharitha of Sriharsha, and will be seen not to suffer in the least by comparison."
