• Pusthaka Malakhayude Katha

Pusthaka Malakhayude Katha, a novel for children penned by Prof S Sivadas, tells us the thrilling real story of Alia Muhammad Baker who saved around 30,000 books from destruction during the Iraq War. Baker was the chief librarian in the Al Basrah Central Library in Basra. As war with the US and UK loomed, government officials denied her requests that the books be moved to safety. With the help of locals she smuggled the books over the library's seven foot wall and into the dining room of the restaurant next door. Illustrations by Venki.
