Papillon, memoirs written by Henri Charrière, a convicted murderer, in Malayalam translated by Dr S Velayudhan. It was first published in France in 1969 which became an instant bestseller at the time. Soon afterward the book was adapted for a Hollywood film.
According to its author, Papillon is an autobiographical novel. Charriere stated that all events are truthful and accurate, allowing for minor lapses in memory. The book's title was based on Charrière's nickname, derived from a butterfly tattoo on his chest (papillon being the French word for 'butterfly').
