• Thekkumkoor Charitravum Puravruthavum

History and myths of Thekkumkoor written by Prof N E Kesavan Namboothiri. Thekkumkoor was a small independent kingdom that existed before 1750 in the southern part of Kerala. The literal meaning of the title is the southern regent and the attribute 'southern' distinguished them from another kingdom known as Vadakkumkoor (northern regent) which bordered it in the northern side. The royal household, Thekkumkoor Kovilakam, were at Laxmipuram Palace, in the present day town of Changanassery and Thaliyilkotta near Thazhathangadi in Kottayam.

The ruler of Thekkumkoor had sided first with Kayamkulam and then with Ambalapuzha against Travancore. After the fall of Ambalapuzha, and as the ruler of Thekkumkoor refused to come to terms with Travancore, his capital city was taken in 1750 by Rama Ayyan Dalawa, minister to King Marthanda Varma and the state was annexed to Travancore in 1753.

'Thekkumkoor Charitravum Puravruthavum' has forewords by Dr Puthusery Ramachandran, Dr M G Sasibhushan, Prof Thekkumkoor Somavarma Raja and Rajiv Pallikkonam.
