Sons and Lovers, the classic novel by D H Lawrence, in Malayalam. Puthranmarum Kaaminimarum, translated by Vaikom Vivekanandan, is regarded as a masterpiece by many critics and is often regarded as Lawrence's finest achievement. Initially the novel incited a lukewarm critical reception, along with allegations of obscenity. It was the first modern portrayal of Oedipus complex.

Puthranmarum Kaaminimarum is semi-autobiographical and tells the story of Paul Morel, a young man and budding artist. Never was a son more indentured to his mother's love and full of hatred for his father than Paul Morel. In this 1913 novel Lawrence grappled with the discordant loves that haunted him all his life--for his spiritual childhood sweetheart, here called Miriam, and for his mother, whom he transformed into Mrs. Morel.
